Random Thursdays

Another Thursday and you know I've always got some randomness up my sleeve...  :)

--I decided yesterday after my post to make Oren's quilt a little harder on myself (WHY???) and do different stars.  Right now I've got it laid out with 20 blocks and only a couple of repeats, but with changing up the fabrics, they should all look different...what do you think?  I haven't cleared it with the boss man yet, but I don't think he'll care as long as it gets done.

The fabrics will differ from what's on here, but I've never tried to figure out how to upload my fabrics into my EQ5...

--I haven't felt too good over the last few days so I decided on a whim to curl my hair today after seeing a pin on pinterest about it.  I'm sitting at my computer with hot rollers in...I'll let you know if it helps lift my mood.

--My race is in a MONTH!!  AHHHHHHHH!!!  I couldn't run at all yesterday due to shin splints (AGAIN!).  I'm going to try and get new insoles this weekend while in Gainesville.  I had planned on doing a full 13.1 mile practice run tomorrow but I don't know if I can with these shins.  We'll see...

--I'm going to the post office today after having bee blocks ready to send out for 2 weeks.  geesh.  If they opened at 8 I'd probably go when I dropped the kids off in the morning but sitting in town for half an hour somehow seems like too much of a burden in the mornings.

--I pinned this recipe this morning and within 10 minutes more than 20 people had repinned it.  Must have made the front page...they sure look good don't they?  I kinda want to make them right now.  Luckily I'm out of both pretzels and caramel bits.

--I get to pick the block next month in our traditional blocks meet modern fabrics bee That Stash Bee.  I've got it narrowed down to a few choices but haven't decided for sure on block or color or purpose of making these blocks...

--I'm working on that secret block I mentioned a few weeks back today.  It seems incredibly simple but involves printing onto fabric and surprisingly  I've never done that.  Fonts are a weakness for me, so it'll probably take me as long to choose fonts and print correctly as it will to construct the block...  I am a sucker for a free font and have WAY TOO many on my computer.  That's why I have a degree in (ag.) communication--words are important to me.  ;)

Okay--I'll leave it there for today.  I still need time to choose fonts, print, sew up these blocks AND take my hot rollers out and comb out the curls...

Thanks for stopping by and reading my silliness.  :)  And don't forget to head over to Cindy's to see everyone else's thoughts for the day and leave her a sweet message because she thinks she has the flu.  :(

Celebrate October

I can't believe this month is more than half over already.  I'm not ready for Halloween yet!  I mean, sure the house is mostly decorated and the kids' costumes have been ordered and arrived (yes, ordered...see here), and  we've already been invited to one Halloween party before the big day, but I just feel like I'm stuck in the middle of a river (we'll call it the river of life) and the current is so strong that I'm being pulled along at a pace that's a little too fast for me.  I want to slow down and casually paddle along, taking breaks to take pictures, enjoy the scenery and stop my kiddos from growing up so fast.  But, apparently I don't get to control the current's pace, so I'm stopping in today to say a quick hi and send some fall/Halloween inpsiration your way!

On a side note before the beautiful pictures start flowing...Gayle still has not contacted me as the winner of the Connecting Threads gift certificate, so I'm giving one more shoutout before I pick a new winner.  Gayle Himmelwright, if you're reading this, email me right away to collect your prize!  Otherwise, I'll draw a new winner on Wednesday afternoon.

Without further ado, here's some color, project, and recipe inspiration...go and create!!

Much cuter than your average sweatshirt, right??  via

I have plenty more inspiration to share but...I'd rather go and create myself instead of waiting on my slow internet tonight...  I'm off to knit a few rows on mitten #2 before turning in for the night.  Tomorrow is kindergarten volunteer day for me...

Thanks for stopping in!

Sneak Peek

We're under a storm cloud that won't go away...I'm talking two days of rain with no end in sight, so me and the sewing machine haven't been spending any time together as I've been trying to keep my kids busy and argument-free.  I HAVE been busy moving over a TON of my old bookmarks onto Pinterest.  I can pull up a few bookmarks, check on the kids, pin a few things, check on the kids, etc.  What do you think:

I have great taste, right?  Just kidding.  The internet is full of so many great ideas.  I could spend all day pulling them and pinning them!!  It's the getting to them and figuring out where to put them that's the problem!!

But this afternoon, I've got Oren laying down for a little while and Emma's down at the barn helping her Daddy, so I've got the embroidery machine working...check back in a day or so for the results...  Any guesses on what it might be??

I did it...

I did it...I said I wouldn't.  I said I couldn't afford another thing in my life that wasted my time encouraged me to find new projects and inspiration.  I read all about it, vowing not to get sucked in...  But, I did.

I joined Pinterest.  If you haven't heard about it, Pinterest is a great way to store all of your ideas and likes from all over the internet.  You can make virtual "bulletin boards" that you pin all of the things you love to.  If you find a picture anywhere on the net that you like, just pin it to a board.  You can have many boards or a few.  You can have tons of "pins" or have restraint.  You can view other's boards to find people with similar style and repin from their boards.  It's simple to use and great for visual people.  And it's completely free!

You have to be invited by someone already on there, or request an invitation.  But no worries, I requested an invite and was signed in and using it 20 minutes later.  And I have dialup!!

So my sewing progress this weekend is slower than I would like, but my boards are filling up!!  I've got boards for quilt ideas I had been saving as bookmarks, but now can see exactly what I love.  I've got a board for holiday ideas, home decor goodies, inspiration signs and sayings, yummy treat recipes, and more!  It will definitely fill any void of time you'd like to not have back, that's for sure.
